While CryoSlimming is not necessarily for weight loss, it can help you reduce those stubborn areas that just don’t seem to budge no matter what you do. CryoSlimming vs CryoToning: What’s the Difference?

CryoSlimming and CryoToning tend to be used interchangeably sometimes, but they are not the same. They each use a specific range of temperatures to achieve a specific goal.

CryoSlimming specifically targets the fat cells by freezing them. When a fat cell is frozen, it causes apoptosis, or cell death, and then the lymphatic system gets rid of it. Static paddles are laid on top of the skin over a protective membrane and the temperature is closely monitored to make sure it stays in the fat-freezing range.

CryoToning specifically targets improving the skin by triggering collagen production. Each technique is used for a different purpose and sometimes they are both used. EMS technology in the static paddles is used for toning as well as a handheld wand to shape and sculpt the body.

How Does It Work?

CryoSlimming works by triggering the fat cells to undergo apoptosis, which is “programmed cell death.” When fat cells are damaged, the cells will die off and move into the lymphatic system for the body to get rid of as a waste product. This method is very effective for targeting those stubborn areas that diet and exercise seem to not have any effect on. Popular areas are the tummy, love handles, back, chin, legs, and arms. Fat cells freeze faster than other cells, so it is easy to target them without damaging surrounding tissue. The other added benefit to CryoSlimming is the CryoToning effect. CryoSlimming gets cold enough to not only target the fat cells but also the skin in order to stimulate collagen production. More collagen means you will see a reduction in loose skin & wrinkles, reduction in the appearance of cellulite, and the overall integrity of your skin will improve.

While CryoSlimming does have a toning effect, CryoToning does not have a slimming effect. CryoToning does not get quite as cold as CryoSlimming, because the sole purpose is to target the skin. This is useful in areas where we don’t want to trim fat, but we do want to improve the skin. We are able to use this method more frequently than slimming, so oftentimes we will alternate slimming and toning sessions to really tighten and tone the area of focus. Not everyone has time to come in weekly, so our newest machine, the CryoLean360 has yet another benefit that can slim and tone at the same time: EMS technology.

What is EMS?

EMS or ElectroMuscular Stimulation is becoming a very popular treatment to work the muscles out harder than you can work them out on your own. More precisely, Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS), also known as neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) or electromyostimulation, is a system of causing muscle contractions using electrical impulses. These impulses directly simulate your motor neurons and have been proven in research to be an effective way to help burn fat and tone muscles. Usually, your Central Nervous System sends electrical impulses to contract your muscles. We can mimic this with EMS technology in our CryoLean360 machine. What’s really “cool” is that the body does not know the difference between electrical impulses from your brain or a machine. It just recognizes that there is a stimulus and reacts accordingly. So, that means you can lay down, relax, and work out all at the same time! And, science actually backs this up:

A study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning looked into whether or not EMS could help elite athletes gain a performance edge. They concluded that “the analysis shows that trained and elite athletes, despite their already high level of fitness, are able to significantly enhance their level of strength to the same extent as is possible with untrained subjects.”

Another study from 2015 titled “Effects of high-frequency current therapy on abdominal obesity in young women: a randomized controlled trial” looked into whether EMS could help you lose body fat.

In this study, a group of subjects received 30 minutes of high-frequency current therapy with a series of electrodes placed on their abdomens. The subjects did these sessions three times per week for six weeks. After those six weeks, the researchers measured the subject’s waist circumference, body mass index, subcutaneous fat mass (fat under the skin), and total body fat percentage.

Surprisingly, without modifying their exercise or diet, the EMS did indeed cause significant effects on decreasing waist circumference, abdominal obesity, subcutaneous fat mass, and body fat percentage, leading the researchers to conclude: “The use of the high-frequency current therapy may be beneficial for reducing the levels of abdominal obesity in young women.”

How to Prepare for a Cryoslimming Session

Preparing for your session is a lot more simple than you might think. You will want to start hydrating a few days beforehand. If you are not hydrated, your body may swell immediately after the treatment. It will take a few days for you to notice that you are getting smaller. This happens because the lymph fluids cannot move well when you are dehydrated. We need an ample amount of water in your body to get the lymph fluids going so we can flush out the fat cells we freeze off. Those who are hydrated usually see a significant difference in just the first session. The other key point is to stay away from carbs and sugar the day before and day of your treatment. Sugars can energize the fat cells and make it harder to get them cold enough to die off. It’s best to just stick with veggies and protein on treatment day and start drinking at least half of your body weight in ounces daily. We will also send you some paperwork to fill out before you come see us. These forms will help us determine if you are a good candidate for CryoSlimming, so it is very important to fill them out ahead of time. We want to be 100% prepared when you walk in for your treatment.

The Complete Checklist to Prepare for CryoSlimming

  • For best results, avoid all kinds of sugar & carbs for 24 hours before and after your CryoSlimming session. (If you cannot avoid the day before, please avoid the day of.)
  • This applies to all kinds of sugars (fruit, pasta, rice, bread, cereals…) and of course simple starches and sugars. We recommend sticking with just protein and veggies for the day.
  • The cold weakens and retracts the adipocyte [fat storage cell]. Consuming sugar will return immediate energy to these cells, so the apoptosis [cell death] effect will be less efficient and can even be canceled.
  • Wear something comfortable and accessible to the area to be treated. A bikini or form fitting workout shorts are best. We will take your measurements on our Fit3D body scanner, so minimal form-fitting clothing is a must. Bring this same outfit if you come back for multiple sessions so we can get accurate after photos as well.
  • The lymphatic system takes 15 days to complete an entire cycle. Results will improve over the 2-6 weeks following the session. Additional slimming sessions can be completed 2-3 weeks after a treatment. (Toning sessions can be performed more often.)
  • Avoid exercise 4 hours before a session. It will be harder to cool the body down and complete the slimming effectively.
  • For best results, maintain the best possible diet and lifestyle to accompany the treatment (drink plenty of water). We rely on a healthy functioning lymphatic system for this to work for you, so everything you can do to keep that system moving helps.
  • Drink at least half of your body weight in ounces of water every day. Start hydrating a couple of days before your session! This is very important! If you already drink this much water, up your water by two glasses per day. This aids your lymphatic system in flushing out more efficiently.
  • If you have access to an infrared sauna, it is recommended to let yourself sweat inside of one of these 72 hours following your slimming session.
  • Your feet act like pumps for your lymphatic system, so it is very important to go for a 30 minute walk every day if you don’t already have an exercise regimen.
  • You may experience cloudy urine as your lymphatic system gets rid of fat cells that were killed off during your session. You may also have sore muscles in the treatment area the next day and slightly pink skin following treatment.

The Complete Checklist to Prepare for CryoToning

  • Wear something comfortable and accessible to the area to be treated. We will have a gown for you to change into unless you prefer to wear your own clothes.
  • Your skin may be a little pink afterwards, but that will clear up within a couple of hours.
  • We highly recommend staying completely away from sugar if your goals are to tone and tighten the skin. Sugar sabotages collagen production and contributes to tissue damage that can lead to cellulite.
  • Other than staying away from sugar, there aren’t any day-of food restrictions.|
  • A series of sessions may be necessary to achieve your desired results.

Aftercare Instructions 

Continue to eat healthy, drink water, and walk for 30 minutes every day to get your lymphatic system moving. We rely on. This statement to flush all of the fat cells out that we killed off! The Side Effects
